Beccy Want the presenter of BBC radio Manchester interviews Alison Fagan-Bird live about the relationship between interiors and how people can decorate their homes for Christmas to incorporate the new trend looks, along with recycle tips that creates a new take on Christmas trimmings that still fit into a contemporary space.

Alison talks about entering an era of extravagance, aesthetics cultural and provocation with crystals, silks, crushed velvet, pearlised and metallic effects, incorporating diamonds into not just fabrics but wallpaper and accessories.

Tactile elements have never been so crucial with touchy feely surfaces and natural elements of glass mirror furniture, European walnut, steel, feathers and ceramics.

Trends have several directions

  • The extravagant Classical French Louis XIV looks with a modern twist
  • Simple retro geometrics patterns
  • Flat one colour florals on a pearlised finish
  • Holistic digital imagery with depth and individuality bringing the outside in
  • Modern slant Morrocan pattern

    Trend Colour
Black, grey, silver grey with white, dark red accents or mains
Acids with green, orange, yellow, pink mixes
Green with several colours beige, white, pink, red and brown
Brown, and orange/ Brown and yellow/ Brown and Black/ Brown and turquoise

Christmas trimmings for Dec 2007 reflect the Trend colours with the following combinations:

  • White Tree with black or green baubles/ crystals
  • Black tree with silver white or red baubles/ crystals
  • Green tree with acid baubles / crystals
And lots and lots of glitter .

    Recycle ideas

Tip 1. Take your old baubles, ornaments, kids toys (which could be old drums, small rocking horses, abacus, recorder), shaped cones or old Christmas trimmings etc and cover them completely with glitter in colours as above. Has impact and looks just wonderful.

Tip 2. Collect all the kids past Christmas trimmings and display them either in a large Perspex box or on a large dish and scatter the new colour you wish to use between the shapes. Will look stylish and keeps all your choice memories in tact. Christmas. http://www.faganbirdinteriors.co.uk/news/
